Native English speaker who grew up in the southern US. I’ve never heard of either of those phrases.

Sometimes travel books will say something like, "When you're strolling the main drag in Bar Harbor/Tangiers/Atlantic City, don't miss the following shops.."

We used to say "cruise the drag" in high school to refer to the main street in town with the Sonic and Whataburger on it, as well as associated parking lots where we'd gather and plan our next move.
