Dutch House is beautifully written and a good read, but not uplifting. Just finished Remarkably Bright Creatures and can confirm it's uplifting. I'm only disappointed that this is the author's first novel so I can't read anything else by her (yet). |

I'm only 25% into it and wouldn't call it "inspiring," but I'm definitely enjoying Romantic Comedy, by Curtis Sittenfeld.
Well-written and upbeat so far - less edgy/cynical than her other novels. (Not that they were all super edgy/cynical - I just picked up a bit of a too-cool-for-school / literary snob vibe underneath that I didn't love. I'm finding this one more enjoyable but still well-written. |

I love Ann Patchett's non-fiction essay collection, This is the Story of a Happy Marriage.
The title essay is terrific, as are the rest. And no, they book is not all about marriage - hers or other people's. It's a range for sure. All really good! |

I love Ann Patchett and Curtis Sittenfeld.
(Agree that they aren't upbeat, per se, but very talented.) |
