I have a 2 yr old, he gets up and down from his Tripp trap without help. If yours is developmentally normal give them a chance. He doesn’t fall, maybe once and didn’t again, we enforce chairs are for sitting. At this point you may be holding back development. With the understanding that not being able to sit through an entire meal is totally normal.
Normal, but not desirable. There’s an annoying 6-12 month period where sure from a physical perspective they can easily climb into and out of the chair independently and don’t need the harness, but they are not mentally mature enough to handle this freedom. My toddler is the worst sleeper on earth, and when she doesn’t eat enough dinner it’s even worse. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want to just sit the kid in a high chair for this brief period to reduce meal time friction. Not everyone has an easy kid who will just sit and eat and get enough calories. |
You could always just get a strap and buckle from REI and go around like a seatbelt. Definitely not safety approved

I'm wondering if you ever figured this out? We want to get rid of the baby set but still use the harness too but have a model from 2021

I have to say that I bought this chair with the babyset because it was advertised to work until 3 years of age. He was 14 months when we purchased it and the babyset doesn’t work for him. My grandson is not overweight is 80th percentile in height and his legs do not fit through the babyset. False advertising on their part! Also to not sell a harness that will work without the hard plastic babyset bucket seat contraption or a larger bucket seat is just plain bad customer service and stupid/shortsighted on their part. Will not ever purchase anything from this company again.
Does anyone have an after market harness they can recommend to use without the babyset since stokke clearly has put their head in the sand and doesn’t offer one for use on the chairs purchased after april 2024? We would still like a harness to use for safety reasons since the bucket seat is too small for 16 month olds legs to fit through.
I hated the Tripp Trapp and my baby hated it too. Never knew how to use the harness without the babyset even though all my friends said it was possible to do. I have a toddler now and he learned to get up and down the Tripp Trapp and stay seated after he turned 2. At almost 2.5, I no longer worry about him falling out and we can finally use the seat as intended. We did have to buy a booster seat in the meantime though…
