| I currently live in DC but will probably make a move to VA or MD for the better schools. I know nothing about Arlington and just a little about Mclean. I've heard Mclean High Schools are top rated. How do Arlington schools compare? What is the best high school in Arlington? |
| Arlington high schools also are rated very highly. The best high school in Arlington is (arguably) Yorktown. |

Both Arlington and McLean have excellent schools. Maybe research the high schools and the surrounding neighborhoods? The schools in North Arlington are growing rapidly, and the school system will soon build new schools and school additions to accommodate the increasing number of kids. McLean is also wildly popular with young families, but I don't think the schools are as crowded.
If you like the older character of the DC neighborhoods you might like Arlington. McLean feels newer, and houses have bigger lots. |
| McLean HS matches up pretty evenly with Yorktown HS in Arlington. Marshall HS, which is in Falls Church but attended by some McLean students, in similar in some respects to Washington-Lee HS. Langley HS in McLean is more uniformly wealthy than the other schools and has somewhat higher test scores. Wakefield HS in South Arlington is more similar to Wilson HS in DC or TC Williams in Alexandria than it is to the McLean-area schools. But all these schools have their fans. |
There are close enough in quality that other things should determine where you want to live. Commute, type of house, affordability, type of neighborhood (walking?), proximity of parks... |
| This again? We have this thread/fight what, bimonthly? |
