Spit up and clothing smell -yuck

This is a small thing but I'm looking for suggestions. My 2 month old has horrible reflux so is constantly soaking his clothes with spit up. We use various detergents that are "green" or safe for baby. But the clothes come out reeking-it's so gross. Anyone have a solution to this? Would like my sweet smelling baby back.

Simple Solution or Natures Miracle from the pet store. It breaks down organic matter. Add 1/2 to a cup to your wash.

Just add vinegar or baking soda to the wash.

My both babies had severe reflux and I never had an issue with clothing smell bad. This is weird. it's just the baby clothing?

We never had an issue too. I just washed with regular detergent. The green ones generally are not strong enough to work well. I would switch to All or Tide Free and Clear.

My niece had pretty bad reflux. My sister wound up keeping a bib on her throughout the majority of the day. That way full changes were less frequent, and only the bib (easier to change and clean) got nasty.

Formula or breastfed? DS spits up constantly and I've never noticed his clothes smelling after washing. We've used both 7th gen and Dreft with the same results.

This is dc2. Dc1 had the exact same issue with his clothes. Both EBF. Hmmm- DH does the laundry, maybe packing machine too tightly?

Happens to me too. I use tide Cold Water as much as I can - basically except for towels and sheets. But sometimes I can still smell the spitup and have to rewash in warm (with Tide Free).

If possible, on a nice sunny day let the clothes line dry outside. Sunshine will pull the smells from deep down out of the clothes. It will work on tough stains as well. I do this every once and a while with cloth diapers to get out residual smell. You also may be using too much detergent. If detergent builds up in the clothes, they will have a harder time releasing smells. Go on a cloth diapering site and you will get all sorts of suggestions about how to adjust your laundry routine to keep baby clothes smelling clean. I would give you suggestions, but it depends on the type of washer and the type of water (hard vs soft) that you have, so it is probably easier for you to read it yourself.

We had this problem with Tide Free (with pee smell from potty training, though) and I started using a scoop of Oxiclean in every load.

OP, I have the same problem. Except my clothes smell from being spit up on! Tide and All free and clear aren't cutting it. Maybe the machine tends to be too full. But thanks to the pp with the baking soda suggestion--I'll try that.

We add a scoop of baking soda to every load of laundry and use vinegar in place of fabric softener. If there's something really dirty/stinky, I soak it in some oxiclean.

Blue Dawn might work too....used to strip cloth diapers. You only need about a tablespoon for a regular top loading machine, I then rinse until no bubbles.
