| As a result of some past issues of not being where she said she was going, 17yo DD has agreed to us tracking her iPhone. Anyone have a recommendation to best to accomplish this? (I understand that she can leave her iPhone somewhere to make it look like she's there, but we're willing to risk this at this point.) Thanks. |
| What phone service do you have? AT&T has a Family Map service, but you pay for it. It locates phones whenever you want. You can also use the FIND IPHONE app, which is free I believe. |
| We're Verizon. I'll look to see if they have anything similar. Thanks. |
| Regarding the Find IiPhone from Apple, I've done this with my own devices, but DD has a different apple ID so I didn't think it would work for my devices looking for her phone. |
It doesn't. Sorry. I thought most kids used their parents' account ID. |
| We have two iphones and an ipad and use find my iphone (not sure the exact name but the popular one). No clue how it is set up as my husband did it and two are on severapte id's. |
| Can't you use find my friends? |
| Use "find my iPhone". You have to turn it on using her iPhone. Then, just log onto her mobile me account to find her iPhone. |
Perhaps, if I knew what this was! |
| Find my friends is an app - you can download it for free on iTunes. Once installed on all phones involved you "invite" someone to connect. They accept and then voila! You can see where they are. It's really accurate and updates pretty quickly when someone's position changes (within 30 seconds or so). |
Does anyone know if the friend (or DD) knows when another friend (or parent in this case) pings the phone to locate it? |
| I use the find my friends ap. |
They can't tell when they're being tracked. |
Actually, you CAN tell if someone is tracking you on Find My Friends, if you are not using any other apps that use location services. My husband and use it all the time to see where each of us are if we're on the way to pick the other up, etc. The little location services pointer in the top grey status bar (thy displays your time, wifi signal, etc) will turn purple when an app on your phone is using location services. So if you have it enabled for Find my Friends and if you're not currently using an app that needs location services, if you see it turn purple you know someone is tracking you on Find my friends. It's still useful to use, as long as you're telling your daughter that it is in use. Note though that sometimes the signal is unreliable. Also, she can turn it off anytime on her end and then just claim she was in a bad service area. |
