Why doesn't Prince Georges County have better charter schools?

Anonymous
I vaguely remember reading that Prince George's county had laws preventing the operation of too many charter schools. Is that true, and can you provide a reference. I bought my house in my early twenties and I am just baffled at the choice of schools and thinking about selling. I was wondering why the county has not attracted some of the cutting-edge charters that DC is operating/opening.

Charters can be great. Charters can be awful. A lot are somewhere in between, and no school is a panecea. I'm a PG parent with a child in a magnet program. My recollection on ther hows, whys, and whats are likewise vague, but I think it's likely a caution against rampant expansion without adequate oversight.

I actually prefer PG's more careful approach to charter schools. What are your circumstances OP? Are your kids around school age and you don't have a good school around? What area are you in?

OP here, my local elementary is Cesar Chavez.
