Beyonce's lyrics are disgusting

Like so many others, she sold her soul.
Ain’t nothing left.

This makes no sense. Her music and style have gotten dramatically more intellectual and artistic over the years.
She may not be everyone’s cup of tea but she’s probably the most talented solo artist we’ve ever seen. She’s like Whitney but she can dance and her music is deeper. She’s like Janet or Madonna but she can sing. She’s the whole package. I only ever listened to a few of her songs but when Lemonade came out it blew my mind. I didn’t know she had this side to her and I’m grateful she’s sharing it with the world.
As an aside, I think her songs about sex are funny, sexy, and totally relatable. Anyone who is clutching their pearls is probably dead inside.

Does she write her own lyrics? I didn't think she does.
Yes, she does. She includes writing teams often (who doesn't), but she is involved in writing all of her songs.

I’m assuming you blame everything other than your parenting for how your children turn out.

Ah, so you don't have kids. Mine are still young, but I'm not naive enough to think that our parenting alone will determine their trajectory. Other inputs matter too.

Ah, so it’s everyone else’s fault. And if you’re kids are young you still have time to help them be decent teens but you’ll blame everyone else bc that’s easier.

Bunch of soulless lifeless scared bland little babies whining about the audacity of artists to branch away from the G-rated Fleetwood Mac and Jefferson Starship crap they grew up on.

Let me take a moment to REITERATE my point to all of y'all with severe reading comprehension issues.

I like Beyonce. I have probably heard every song she and DC have released. I even jammed out to the DC song she did back with Silkk the Shocker ( waaaay back in the day - yes, I'm a OLDER person lol). They played that on BET only when Destiny's Child were still suffering in obscurity. I still have my The Writing's on the Wall and B'Day CDs.

So I do not begrudge Beyonce her more salicious material at all. I know her songs. I probably know all the lyrics. I have danced to Freekum Dress more times than I can count.

My ISSUE with her is that she created a musical event to bring awareness and recognition to HBCUs. It's a laudable goal. A respectable one. She stated that HBCUs were important to her and her family. Same with me. I identified with her sentiment and once I heard about her documentary, I was excited. I wanted to share it with my daughter who will be looking into colleges in the future.

I was ALSO thrilled that an AA woman was directing and writing the docufilm.

So when we got the popcorn, settled in to watch, and I couldn't help but be shocked when she sang THOSE songs. Chose to use the N word and say "bitch" repeatedy, when she has DOZENs if not HUNDREDS of other songs she had written (or could have written) that have positive and empowering messages of hope and pride.

I didn't even share how shocked I was when she came out in the latex S&M outfit that looked straight out of a PORNO.

So that's it. My final statement on this. I like Beyonce but expected better. Hopefully her future Netflix films are better.

*Mic drop*

Did she really say that? Who in her family attended an HBCU? Certainly not her, since she didn't even graduate from high school (and it shows).

You are so angry, bitter and joyless. You should work on that.

Lol, hurl insults if you want. But I'm not wrong.

It’s only an insult if it isn’t true.

I respect your opinion, I don't agree but I respect it. But I'm not sure what your beef with Beyonce is. You say you like her and know her music yet you were shocked and caught off guard when she performed her more current hit songs? You do know about Coachella, right? I'm not asking in a snarky way, my sister in law hadn't heard of it before beyonce's performance. It's a HUGE platform and her performance was highly anticipated. It's a no brainer that she would be performing her newer more current songs. And to your other part about not wanting to expose our dd to these type of lyrics and costuming. Beyonce has been doing this gig for many years now. Barely dressed and singing very bold aggressive lyrics, I'm assuming as someoe who likes her you are aware of this. She never strays from her brand. If only you had thought to check the ratings, if nothing else gave you an inkling of what to expect, the MA rating would have.

OP obviously just doesn’t get it. Everybody ain’t like you and this everything ain’t supposed to be custom fitted just for you. Music and art are cultural and personal and you don’t own the copyright to cultural and individual expression. If you aren’t into what Beyoncé brought to Coachella - fine - you ain’t gotta like it and you ain’t gotta watch it and you ain’t gotta listen to it. But don’t play that pretentious game of trying to stigmatize and delegitimize her music or her artistry just cause your old stuffy stiff-assed no rhythm and no sex life having self can no longer relate to the style and soul and sensuality that Beyoncé brings. Get over yourself and grow up the world doesn’t revolve around you as evidenced by the millions who are into what Beyoncé brought to Coachella and who did like it and who will watch it and who will listen to it.

I'm a PP who called you a prude a few pages back. PLEASE do not tell me this is what you are shocked by:

If this is what you meant, then I rest my case. You're an idiot.

So you agree she's trashy by branching away?

On another note, as far as I can see, I don't notice female empowerment exuding from Beyonce'.

So just cause you don't notice it that means others don't? Where do you egotistical brats come from?

I'm assuming you don't have kids. Peer influences and media count for a lot as kids get older.

Ah, so you don't have kids. Mine are still young, but I'm not naive enough to think that our parenting alone will determine their trajectory. Other inputs matter too.

So sit em in front of Nick Jr. and let em watch that crap - stop hating on musicians.

Huh? This doesn't even make sense in the context of my prior comment. You Beyonce fans aren't really representing yourselves well here.

If you have kids at some point, feel free to have them twerking to Beyonce's music. My little black daughter will not be. Beyonce's songs are okay (just okay) for the club, but I don't really like their substance.

You're both ninnies. Neither parents nor pop culture have as much influence on our kids as we discussed like to believe or think.

Your little black daughter isn't obligated to doofus. What the hell kind of autocratic power do you think Beyoncé has? She's an artist/entertainer not a friggin dictator. Stop whining about nothing and go give your kid a juice box.

Of course popular culture and music influences kids, especially OUR kids. Again, you Beyonce fans are just showing your ignorance, much like ratchet Beyonce herself.

Ninnies? Umm...ok whatever that is meant to mean. Look, you raise your kids. If your child grows up to want to twerk like Beyoncé so what?! If your child grows up to be intolerant, rude, crass, and judgmental then that’s ok you. Beyoncé isn’t controlling your daughter but your ignorant and intolerant attitude will not help your child. Not everyone makes a good parent.
