Stink bug seen at a house for sale--what does this mean?

| If I saw a stink bug in a house that's for sale, does that mean the house is infested? I am not from this area so I don't quite understand how they work. I have heard that once you have them they are impossible to get rid of. Is a sighting a deal breaker on a house? Or are these microbeasts inevitable wherever you live around here? We haven't had them in our current rental house. |

| They're all over the area and they just try to get in when it's cold and to get out when it's warm. Totally harmless except they stink if you crush them and they sound like a helicopter when they fly. |

| Stink bugs aren't like roaches. A house isn't "infested" with them. They come in from the outside through cracks under doors and around windows, especially in the fall. They are completely harmless and don't cause destruction or carry disease or bite/sting. We bought our house a year and a half ago, and didn't see any stinkbugs during the touring, but that fall we noticed them coming in and at one point in October had about 200 of them one week in the house. We've never had that much since, but I'd say we have about 15 or so in the house during the peak times. We usually just leave them alone, though when we had the 200 of them we took a broom and swept them all outside. We've tried weatherstripping which has helped, but our windows are drafty and they can get through small cracks. They don't bother me at all. They are only really annoying in the kitchen, where they tend to fly around when I'm trying to cook. Other than that they're harmless and only mildly annoying. We have several cats who like to eat most bugs but they won't touch the stinkbugs. |

| You can buy stink bug eliminators if it bothers you that much. My parents have a bunch in the winter. They are in the wood for the fireplace. |
