What test is administered for MS magnet programs?

Anonymous
A friend of mine is planning to move to MoCo from NC. Her kid will be in 5th grade when they move. She wants to know what test is administered for middle school magnet programs here. She was also wondering if they move early next year (past the test date) can her kid take any equivalent test and request to be admitted to magnet school based on alternate test scores?

TIA

One of them is a Raven test. Not sure about the others ... SCAT maybe?

No, there is no other testing opportunity and you can't submit alternate scores.

Is the testing two days or one?

Is the SCAT test same as that of CTY?

It's one morning of testing. I'm just guessing about the SCAT -- MCPS doesn't reveal details. It's a math component, a reading comprehension component, and an essay (if you apply to both programs).

I heard that it is a version of SCAT specifically designed to differentiate the highest levels..so the scores are not comparable to other version of SCAT.

I've heard the reason you can't compare results to other test scores is that Pearson develops the magnet test exclusively to meet MCPS' specifications.

This explanation would be totally consistent with 8:20's explanation, i.e. that it's a version of the SCAT.

I thought SCAT had two parts: 1) word analogy 2) find the larger of two quantities. It does not have a reading comprehension component. So I'm a little confused by the above response.

I think you are right -- it's the ES test that's the SCAT.
