Rollingwood Neighborhood in Chevy Chase

Anyone have any experiences to share with this neighborhood? We are considering a rental house in this area and are curious to learn more. Are there many young families? Our kids are 6 and 9. Is there any diversity? Are there neighborhood events? Is it a friendly, welcoming area....people out walking, interacting and a good sense of community? Since we are currently overseas we can't see the area in person, but our realtor speaks highly of it. She reports that Rock Creek Park and the Candy Cane playground are within easy walking distance and same with the Brookville shops.

We are weighing this against another house which is smaller, but in a very close-in Bethesda neighborhood. The walkability of the Bethesda home is very appealing and although the house and the surrounding houses are smaller, there seems to be a bit more flavor and mix of the residents than in the Chevy Chase option. But perhaps Rollingwood has a good mix, too?

Any feedback, positive or negative would be great.
Thank you!

I know Chevy Chase, but not this exact neighborhood - but it can't be that different. Chevy Chase is a nice community, multi-generational, neighbors always walking. But, sometimes depending on street, not many young families. but that could be true anywhere. Renting versus buying, I think makes a difference in this decision as people choosing chevy chase - usually are for the long term.

There is not much at Brookville shops - (although I highly recommend their pharmacy even if you do move to Bethesda). There are hundreds of shops, restaurants, in downtown Bethesda. With kids, Bethesda is walking distance to parks, library, and lots of activities. Also - if you are going to public school, you will need to research this one. Depending on where you in Bethesda, it could be a distance or even a quick walk. Chevy Chase can be long bus rides to elementary school near silver spring.

We looked here and found the rolling hills and no sidewalks an issue. I would rent some where else. Martins addition in chevy chase is much better.

I live in rollingwood and have 2 kids, similar ages as yours. We love Rollingwood! The location is convenient to many places. We live being so close to Rock Creek/ Candy Cane park an the walking and bike paths nearby. Each street had something of its own identity. But in general, it's a friendly place. Lot of interesting people.
