Busch Gardens Williamsburg - looking for advice/info

Anonymous
I've gotten some great tips on this board, so I figured I should just start here. I'm thinking of taking the kids (4 and 7) to Busch Gardens this summer. I haven't been there since I was a teen, so I'm looking for advice on where to stay, what to do (other than Busch Gardens), and any other tips. Thanks!

Fortunately Williamsburg is full of timeshare/condo properties. With 2 kids, that is the only route I would take so you can have 2 bedrooms and some private time and room to spread out. We've stayed at King's Creek Plantation, very close to Water Country and shopping (Target, Kohls, grocery). There a few pools on property -- indoor and outdoor. We stayed in a 2 bed townhome, king in master and twins in other, very spacious. My tip for BG is to get there early for good parking and to get ahead of the crowds, try to avoid the weekends. We bought combo tickets at AAA.

We just got back from KingsMill Resort and you really cannot go wrong there, they have a river beach, pools, a game room, restaurant, golf, tennis, coffee shop, nice 1 bedroom units, a spa...there is a 24 hour Harris Teeter right across from the entrance so you can stock up when you get there.
I've been considering Powhatan Plantation because they often have GREAT deals online ($49-70/night) for 1-2 bedroom units.

We stayed at Powhatan plantation 4years ago, and was totally surprised by how inexpensive and how great it was-indoor pool, mini golf course, bikes, playground, etc. we were under impressed by Williamsburg -maybe kids were wrong age for it. I just expected it to be more inspired.

You can't beat Kingsmill for the convenience -- but you can for the price. Also, for Kingsmill, there is outside access to almost every room, and this made me a little uncomfortable when I was with DC alone (it's a gated community but there are a lot of woods, etc.,.) They don't have roll a way beds, so that can be a problem for some families.

If you don't mind the cost, Kingsmill is awesome. We've done it three times and usually get a package. Having said that, I'm going to look into Powhatan Plantation!
