Infertility Support and Discussion

I have been charting for the past several months using Fertility Friend, which has been pretty easy. We have not had any success, so I thought I would also begin to use the ClearBlue Easy digital sticks. So... now I have had my "thermal shift", but ClearBlue Easy is coming up with nada... How accurate are the tests?
A friend of mine mentioned that it is possible to not be ovulating even if you are having your period. How do you get ovulation going again? Thanks in advance! I am getting really frustrated and down about this. First baby was much easier to conceive! |
| It is definitely possible to have periods and not ovulate (anovulatory cycles). Are you certain of your thermal shift? How long has your temp stayed above the coverline? Also, are you using the monitor or strips? I have heard it's possible to have such a short lh surge that with 24 hours between ovulation tests, it's possible to miss it. |
| i had success with the clearblue sticks (the digital ones with the smiley face) but i've heard some on this forum say those don't work for everyone so maybe they aren't working for you? I've also heard others say they tried the ovulation sticks twice a day as PP notes for some the window is short. hang in there -- i'm with ya on round two being more difficult... |

1. I found charting to be more accurate than the test sticks.
2. It is definitely possible to have your period without ovulating. 3. My next step or advice for your next step would depend on your age - if you are over 30, you might want to go to a Reproductive Endocrinologist for an evaluation (they can tell via sonogram for certain whether or not you are ovulating, for instance). |

A thermal shift is indicative of ovulation having occured, it is more accurate than the tests. If your cycles are regular, you should try next month in the few days leading up to ovulation. If you wait until the day of ovulation, it may be too late (the swimmers need some time to make it to your tubes).
You could also try testing more than once a day. The tests are not sensitive enough to pick up everyone's LH surge. You may never get a positive OPK, but are likely still ovulating if you are seeing a sustained rise in temp. |
