have you ever donated your old kitchen to Habitat for Humanity?

We are remodeling a 30-year old kitchen next month. I believe there is a program whereby Habitat for Humanity will take your old kitchen off your hands, so it helps a good cause while keeping the stuff out of landfills. My understanding is that it's usually done by ultra-rich people with a relatively recent kitchen who are nonetheless putting a new one in.
Our kitchen is plain old, except for the oven and microwave. It's ugly and impractical for our needs. The cabinets have a few nicks and scratches on the doors but other than that it's perfectly serviceable (we used it for a whole year after moving in without any problem).
I was wondering if anyone has donated their old kitchen, and if so, if it was like ours or fancy stuff, and what your experience was with HFH. I'm a little worried about trying to do this and them damaging or destroying something in the process.

TIA.

I just donated to habitat. If your cabinets and appliances work, then habitat wil come and pick them up. All you nef to do is email them. They have a restore in alexandria that you can contact. They will give youa receipt as well.

You still have to tear out the stuff yourself, OP. Not sure what you think they're going to damage or destroy.

A few year ago we donated our kitchen cabinets and sink to habitat for humanity. You have to take everything out yourself and then they will come pick it up.

We recently renovated our kitchen. You do have to remove all the cabinets and un-install the appliances yourself (our contractor did this). They will take any cabinets in good condition but appliances have to be less than ten years old and I don't think they take dishwashers. They came to the house and picked up our cabinets, refrigerator, and gas stove. I think we donated our dishwasher to Salvation Army.

You can also call Community Forklift & they'll come pick everything up. They took our cabinets, countertops, all appliances except dishwasher, and some other things including a set of French doors & a large window.

No place is going to do the demo for you. We had our contractor remove everything & put it in the garage & driveway for CF to pick up. You should coordinate the dates so you have it picked up as soon as it's taken out of your kitchen so you're not trying to store it in your house or garage.

They wouldn't take ours (I couldn't blame them as I didn't want it either).

You can also Craig's List it really cheaply or for free - someone may want it for their basement/workshop or even kitchen if they can be refinished/painted. Often, some people will remove them for free. We gave a few of ours away but we removed them as we DIY'ed our kitchen.
