I quit wearing contacts about two years ago and switched to glasses. I've got progressive lenses but, frankly, they never seemed to help and I still have to take them off sometimes to read things. I'd like to go back to wearing contacts but don't want to be tethered to reading glasses. I've thought about bifocal/progressive lenses. Has anyone tried them or thoughts about wearing contacts when you're starting to hold things away from you to read? If it makes any differences, I'm actually very nearsighted. Thanks!

Yes - been wearing them for a few years now and love them. I've always been nearsighted, but just a few years ago I became much more farsighted and couldn't read anything farther than a few inches away from my face and the multi focal contacts really made a difference. I refuse to get a prescription filled for bifocal glasses until I they are my only option.
I did go back to my doctor a few times after each prescription that she gave me just to make sure I got them right. You can get a sample pair to try next time you get your eyes checked. |
OP here. Thanks for the info. I think I'll give them a try!
I've been wearing the bifocal lenses for a few years, too. They don't give you perfect eyesight either up close or for distance, but they beat carrying around reading glasses (and losing them). The only time I really have trouble reading is when the light is poor.
I've been wearing them for a few years and have had the same experience as 11:49. I did get a pair of distance glasses to wear over the bifocal contacts when I need sharper vision far away--for example, at the movies, while driving, and so on. Mine are Bausch & Lomb, remove at night, and throw away after one month of daily wear.
