We are thinking of getting our hardwood floors refinished. Which contractor did you use and were you happy with the quality and price? TIA. |
Where are you located? |
We used Select Floors (Rockville) and they did a great job on our house in NW DC. Marcus (co-owner, I think) coordinated our job. Price was reasonable but not the very cheapest. The work was done neatly, on time, and was high quality. We would use them again. |

We're in Howard County and used A Plus Floors in Columbia. They're incredible-the owner will personally call you if you have any issues or questions and we will use them again as we get some other work done once we have the budget for it.
We didn't have new floors installed--we had old ones refinished, and it was about $1500. |

$1500 was for how many rooms? did it include staining? |
Universal Floors, universalfloors.com in Tenleytown. They go everywhere. They aren't the cheapest but they aren't ridiculous. They are very experienced and did our entire home in 2004. We just did a home reno and our contractor went with a lower bidder and we had to have them out to fix things. Didn't have that issue with Universal. |
We have been really happy with Angel Floors:
Angel Floors, Inc 2715 Dawson Avenue Silver Spring, MD 20902 (301)942-6435 angelfloors@gmail.com They are a small operation, mostly run by a husband (Tony, who does the floors with a few employees) and his wife Roxana, who runs the "office" part. We hired them to refinish our first floor (in NW DC) and were so pleased with their prices, punctuality, neatness, and professionalism that we also hired them to refinish the upstairs and install floating engineered wood floors in our basement a few years later. |
PP re: A Plus Floors here. The $1500 was for our bedroom, upstairs hallway, and stairs. We had a runner put on the stairs (which was included in that price). The price didn't include staining because we wanted the floors to match what we have downstairs (a natural finish). They'll come out to do a free estimate so I wouldn't hesitate giving them a call. |
If you have old heart pine, go with Universal by all means. We didn't, because we got a cheaper quote from another company that a friend had recommended, and now I regret it. Universal has a stock of old heart pine they can use for patching and having seen how different new pine can look next to the old stuff, I really wish we'd gone with them.
If patching and matching very old wood isn't an issue, then you can probably go with any of the recommendations above. Someone recommended Angel Floors to me as well, but I wasn't ever able to get them to call me back. |
Does anyone have a recommendation in VA? We're looking specifically for someone who can match new flooring to the finish on our original floors (red oak, circa 1948). thx |
The floor people our general contractor used on our floors did an amazing job. The original floors were a disaster and they did a great job toothing in new boards where the previous owners had put in scores of screws. We can't even tell what's the old floors and what's the new. Of all the work we have done in our house, I rave about the job these guys did the most.
Our general contractor is Will Greco of EGG Construction http://eggconstruction.com/ |
We just had ours done. We are in Potomac. Nelson Rivas was excellent and the prices is competitive. You can try to negotiate as well. |
