Here is what I'm thinking (it's a traditional looking colonial with a triangular portico above the front door, and the current siding is powder blue aluminum and in bad shape, with cream shutters and a cream door, cream trim, cream garage door): light sage green siding, black shutters, medium-brick-red door, white trim, white garage doors. Thoughts? I think this combo is lovely, but is it "classic"?
Any other ideas? |
Greige.
I'd have to see the light sage green in order to judge, but (sorry) it sounds really ugly to me. |
OP here. Here is a link to my inspiration pic: http://www.colonialremodeling.com/images/decks_porches/big/e_4.jpg |
My neighbor did a sage color and the windows were darker green trim and off white trim on porch. It looks very nice.
Their front door is a gorgeous stained wood door. Red door and black trim sounds unappealing to me, sorry! |
hardeeplank (spelling?) looks so much better than vinyl or anything else other than wood or brick of stone. get that |
Not black trim, did I write that? Sage/beige with white trim, black shutters, red door. See pic.
Hardeeplank? I will look into that, thanks! |
Hardiplank.
I LOVE sage green but for a house exterior, I would do something more neutral like white or light gray. |
I would opt for something neutral like beige, khaki, or gray, and do colored shutters and door for a pop of color. Or I love the look of black shutters and shiny black door with beige or cream siding. I personally would get tired of a sage green house. |
don't like the idea of pairing a green and red - too Christmassy. |
I like the pic that you linked and think that is a neutral color. |
There's one in our neighborhood that is a light grey with burgundy shutters and a dark grey/tankard-color front door. It actually looks really cool. The portico is white and there is a slate front walkway.
They also have a tree with burgundy leaves in the front yard so I am thinking that was the inspiration for the shutters. It has good curb appeal and I generally only like brick. |
Definitely go with hardiplank siding. More expensive butbso much nicer. |
There's a house in our neighborhood that has the color scheme you're thinking of, OP. It looks lovely. The door is a dark red, and the sage green has a slight greyish undertone, so it doesn't look Christmasy at all.
I agree about the hardiplank. Definitely the best option. |
