Snap-n-Go in San Francisco?

Anonymous
I tried to post this earlier and for some reason did not get posted. If two of these posts show up, my apologies.
We want to visit San Francisco for 3 days with our three and half month baby (at the time of the visit). Given we have only 3 days, we may not be able to do any side trips. So the question is if we can make do with Snap-n-Go withiin the city, doing all the touristy things?
Thanks!

Do you like your Snap-n-Go around DC? I hated the one I borrowed once (handled like a dump truck) and wouldn't want to walk all around SF with it, but I'm sure others feel differently.
Unless you plan on hopping on cabs and thus need the car seat, I would carry the baby in a sling/Ergo/etc for trips like that, but mine never liked his infant bucket anyway.

We used an Ergo for all our travel starting with my son's first trip (Germany to DC). Like a PP, I would avoid a stroller unless you absolutely need it for a car seat.

We visited SF when my son was 7 months old, and we did take the car seat as we knew we'd need it for the ride to and from the airport, but again skipped the stroller and took the Ergo.

With a baby that young, I would definitely use a carrier such as an Ergo or wrap or sling rather than mess with a stroller. Have fun!

I would take a Bob or other all terrain stroller for the hills.

I assume you are planning on flying and taking the baby car seat and that given this trying to minimize other stuff and that since you have a 3 1/2 MO, the baby will not be big enough for another style stroller.

If this is accurate, I think you can do 3 days w a snap and go - but it all depends on when you are going, where you are staying and what you are planning to do.

I know you commented that you are not doing side trips - but if you are just staying in a central location and doing a ton of walking then I would say go with a carrier of some type. (Bjorn, Ergo - what ever you prefer). I think this might be easier than walking and holding the snap and go up a ton of stairs that a lot of attractions have.

Have fun!

I loved my snap and go for going to big stores, the mall, anything with smooth floors -- but I hated the way it handled on city streets and sidewalks. San Francisco has some bumpy sidewalks, so I don't think you would use it to walk around the city. If you are bringing the carseat anyway it might make going through the airport easier and you can just leave it at your hotel, so I wouldn't discourage you from bringing it, but I would also bring a bjorn/ergo/sling for walking around the city.

The people suggesting no stroller in San Fran are crazy. You definitely want a stroller, albeit something lightweight with all the hills. We brought our then 5 month old to San Fran several years ago and had a Peg Perego Pliko 3. It was godsend -- big basket to hold things, bags from shopping, bottles, etc. We could sit and eat lunch while the baby napped. It had the shade to block out the sun. We took the stroller out to Alcatraz with no problems. I logged about 10 miles a day during that trip. No way I would have done that carrying the baby.

I took a 3 month old to SF with a stroller/backpack convertible Kelty frame. This was 8 + years ago. It was the perfect gear for that city and that age. Could put on the backpack for the cable car, convert to a stroller at a restaurant when she was sleeping. Not great for heavier babies as the wheels dug into my hips too much for a long walk to be comfortable.

I think time may have warped your memory - Peg Pliko P3 and big basket NEVER go together in the same sentence

Well, it was certainly bigger than our Maclaren! But I'll give you that it wasn't the biggest basket, but it was sufficient for some essential baby items and some shopping purchases. Also hung a small diaper bag on the handles.

took our snap and go to san fran and did just fine. We needed the car seat, so even though we love our BOB it was just too much stuff to bring along.
