allergic reaction/oxyclean?

Anonymous
Hi, has anyone else's child had an allergic reaction/rash because of Oxyclean? If so, what did you do? After doing my 1 1/2 year old's bedding with oxyclean, his face is now covered in a rash. I have since rewashed all lined as a did prior to oxyclean usage, it has been two days and the rash still hasn't subsided (its actually larger and redder). Thanks!

take him to the doctor. normally rashes would subside sooner than that.

I disagree with PP about rashes being better in 2 days. I have had issues with fragrance and eye creams personally and it has taken over a week to clear up sometimes - often getting worse 1-2 days in before better.

have you given any benadryl? put any hydrocortisone cream on the rash (not near eye or mouth of course)? I would watch it closely - can't hurt to see a doctor, but if not painful to child I would definitely wait it out a few days. Also - could take more than one washing to get out the oxyclean.

yeah I used it to get my whites nice an white... I did EVERYTHING white in it (underwear, bras, socks, shirts)... Needless to say it took about a week for my rash to go away... scared the life out of me! everything was nice and white, especially the white underwear that I was wearing! lol yeah took about 3 hours for me to link it together... spent my afternoon rewashing EVERYTHING! darn irish skin!!

I still use it today but I will wash it with oxyclean first then rewash the clothes again with regular detergent.. have not had a problem since

My daughter have bad rash and allergic reaction to oxyclean, i rinsed her clothes and bed a few times to remove the soap from it. I had to see a doc who gave me something to help her heal faster it takes a few days to be back to normal. Dont forget to rewash towels too if u use too.

Good Luck .

I have had a severe reaction to Oxi Clean powdered detergent. I went to immunologist to get a steroid shot to help with my symptoms which included, itchy eyes, skin irritation, and throat irritation. I have read quite a bit about it. Some of the fixes suggested have been re-washing your whites after washing them with Oxi-Clean which I found wasteful or changing your bleach substitute. I am personally getting rid of the Oxi Clean in my home altogether. It works miracles on your clothes but at an expense I prefer to do without.

I found mule borax 49 works great for brightening.

My daughter did. We still use the Oxiclean, but then run the clothes through another 2 cycles without any detergent to be sure to get it all out. The pediatrician suggested running it once more, but I am taking no chances. The HE washers do not get all the soap out after washing the clothes.

I had the same reaction recently. I am a middle aged adult. It was in the All product I bought. Red face, on the side in which I sleep, swollen eyes, very itchy. I had it once, then it cleared up. I thought it was from another product, which I discarded. It tool about a full week for it to clear up.

Been searching for info on oxyclean and skin allergy. i was using oxyclean instead of cleanser for cleaning(safer for the cesspool) I have had an extreme rash on my hands twice and I am suspecting the oxyclean now. I use gloves, but one of them tore last week and my right hand is swollen and blistered just like it was a few weeks ago after cleaning. Could also have contact just scooping it out of the box or handling cleaning rags afterward. Haven't slept in 2 nights--was was exposed 3 days ago. I highly suspect the oxyclean and will never use it again. It is so painful and itchy, it is worrying me. Last time it took about 10 days to get better. This time is much worse.

I wish i had read these posts before I bought the Oxiclean Detergeant. I only washed one load in Oxiclean before I went out of town. It took me the entire weekend to figure out what had caused the rash on my arms and legs. Luckily, I had not washed any undergarmets! I had to get a steroid pack to get rid of the rash. I will not be using this detergeant again. I have never had a reaction to a detergeant or a soap and I don't consider myself to have sensitive skin.
I wish that they would listen to their consumers and change the formula.

Had a terrible rash from Oxyclean when I tried it. It was everywhere my clothing had touched. It took a while to clear up but I don't remember exactly how long. I won't go anywhere near it ever again!

Actually no, and I soak DS's stained white shirts in Oxyclean overnight sometimes and then wash them again with detergent in the washing machine. He has never had any kind of reaction from it.
