After school child care in Mount Rainier?

Anonymous
I've still got a lot of time before my DS starts school at Mount Rainier Elementary (lol, he's only 3 months, but I'm really trying to plan well ahead and learn more about parenting issues after the fiasco I went through getting him into a daycare center), but I'm confused as to what parents do about after school care. Does anyone else have children at Mount Rainier Elementary, or know of an after school child care place that comes to the school to pick up children and keep them for the rest of the afternoon? I just assumed schools all offered after school care, but MRE doesn't. I know that Christian Family Montessori School in Mt. Rainier is partnered with Joe's Movement Emporium and Northeastern Presbyterian Child Development Center to provide after school care for them....but I don't see myself being able to afford tuition there.

Hi OP -- I don't have an answer to your question but I was wondering if you were aware of the Mount Rainier board at Yahoogroups? That might be a place to get your question answered.

Also, don't worry too much! There can be a lot of changes in your situation and what you're looking for by the time this becomes an issue for you.

CFMS is leaving Mt Rainier at the end of this school year. The school is moving to Petworth in DC. Maybe there would be a way to get your kid to Joe's in the afternoon? What do other parents of kids at Mt Rainier Elementary do?

Joe's takes kids from Mount Rainier Elementary. My son's been going there since kindergarten. The counselors meet them at school and walk them over. There ARE a limited number of scholarships available. Currently Club Joe's (the aftercare program) is $75 a week.

It's a pretty cool program.
