Beauty and Fashion
My husband and I are going to a cocktail party this weekend. I'm going to wear a black dress and black heels, but should I wear hose? If yes, nude or black? THANKS!
no hose
Definitely good quality fine nude hose. Try Victoria's Secret.
No nude hose. Bare legs or tights. Black hose if you must.
I think this depends on your legs. I would love to never wear hose, but the reality is that my legs look awful. Especially in the winter and against all that black. It would look like I was wearing white tights (with blue veins all over them ). If you don't have nice legs get a good pair of nude hose that come close to matching your natural skin color so that your legs and arms don't look like wildly different tones.

Definitely sheer black hose, 10-15 den
I've been seeing a lot more sheer black hose at evening events -- and I like it! Otherwise I get expensive very sheer nude hose -- Donna Karan nudes are pretty good and not too pricey. I didn't realize until I was at a hotel with too many mirrors in the bathroom that I have a bunch of spider veins on the back of my legs!
sheer black hose looks nicer. nude looks weird, like leg makeup.

Depends upon the color of your legs. If you look best with some color to your skin, then I would wear a patterned hose which is the big style trend. Otherwise, bare legs.
You could also go bare and apply a bronze lotion to your legs. |
PP here. I meant to clarify the lotion suggestion. There are products out there that add a little metallic sheen while moisturizing.
black w/ a very subtle pattern. (check out DKNY patterned tights or hose for example). too much plain black or nude hose looks dated. i'm not talking fishnets, here. if you haven't checked out patterned tights/hose in a while you'll be pleasantly surprised. they are very tasteful, and the pattern really make the look current.
Leg bronzer is often streaky and overly orange. Be careful with it. I am pale and it never worked for me.
What kind of heels? If they are open, no hose.
|
I really don't understand the no-hose people. A) my legs look better with hose, and B) its still cold (cool) outside. And I think hose are dressier than bare legs (so I guess that depends on the event).
I agree that really open toed shoes (strappy) shouldn't be worn with hose, but it's a little too early in the year to wear open shoes anyway, IMHO. I think a peep-toe with hose is fine, though. |
Nude hose are old fashioned and out of style. They just don't look good.
