Not sure what to do with 9th grade DC over Spring Break. I will have to work most of that time so DC will be on her own. I'm thinking of having her do Driving Training that week. She would have to take the bus to the class location everyday. It's a 14 class. I know she won't be happy having to go to class over Spring Break but it will be good to get it out of the way.
Alternatively, I would love to find a close by, overnight, week long community service program for her to join. The reality is that she will sit home and watch TV the whole time I'm at work because most of her friends and their families are vacationing that week. What are you doing with your DC? |

The horse center near us does week long camps - we usually do a spring break camp if we are not going anywhere. You can also do a sports camp - a lot of places offer them.

| Kids After Hours in Montgomery County has a program called Travelin' Teens that covers the first four days of spring break, starting April 18. Each day they go on a different trip. There may be some kids in 9th grade, although it is more middle school oriented. See http://www.travelinteens.com/ |
| They stay at home, sleep in, eat everything they can find and hang out with their friends. It is a break - no way am I going to make them take classes on their break and camp - haha!! Not a chance. They are responsible and I have no concerns about them being at home. |
NP here - Good for you! My DD is a wild child and camp it is for her on any year we don't travel. If we had succeeded in making her a bookish teen, my answer might have been different. |
| OP here. Literally, all of DD's friends will be vacationing. This is the first year we haven't because I have a schedule conflict. I wish DD had friends around that she could hang out with but that isn't happening. She really does want to get her permit and I won't let her get it until she takes a class. Of course, I haven't brought this up to her, yet. She may scream bloody murder at having to get up and, god forbid, take the bus, which she has never had to do. We would do a trial run first. Ideally, I would find a close by overnight camp. |
Where did you get from my post they were bookish teens? I think if your daughter is agreeable to going to camp that is great. |
Isn't 9th grade awfully early for drivers ed? She can't get a permit until she is somewhere between 15.5 and 16 depending on where you live. I don't think you want to do it too early. And the drivers ed class isn't optional - she has to take it to get a license. My dd is on break now. She will be hanging out at home the first week and going to sports pre season the 2nd week. She totally needs the downtime, plus has various dr appointments and other things scheduled that she can't do during the school week. |
DD did K twice so she will be 16 in June. Doctor and dentist appts are a great idea. Why didn' t I think of that? Do you feel your DD busts her ass at school during the year to get good grades? Mine doesn't, so she doesn't really have anything to unwind about. |
| We're taking a family vacation. I save my leave for spring break, two weeks in the summer, and winter break. |
