Moving from DC to job in Oakland - schools??

OP here, I came back to this thread today. After a lot of consideration we decided not to move. The schools and the cost of housing were the main factors. Plus although I am a liberal, California politics seems to have completely derailed.
I wanted to thank everyone for their posts, but in the end, beautiful California is not in our cards (as I look at the snow falling..)

DP.. I moved from the Bay Area to the DC area because of the housing costs and schools. And yea some of the CA politics are getting way too out there. So, I totally get where you are coming from.

But, the weather..sigh.. I miss CA weather sooo much.
