Lights are good and actually required by law if riding at night but the new recommendation also calls for high visibility clothing during the day and reflective gear at night. Consumer Reports conducted a study of reflective gear and determined that the basic reflective safety vest is best, which is no surprise because they meet government standards for retro-reflectivity. A lot of the "reflective" clothing sold is not nearly sufficient to meet the standard. |
| Consumer Reports determined that the basic reflective safety vest is the most visible. Consumer Reports did not assess whether high-visibility clothing during the daytime makes any actual, meaningful difference. |
I agree, but when you say "daytime" you mean "clear visibility" right? Will OP's DC distinguish between sunny and cloudy, clear or reduced visibility? The rule in my family is to wear a vest during the day too since I don't want my DS deciding this each time he rides. |
| Remember the days before anyone even wore helmets? |
Daytime = during the day When you're driving, do you turn your headlights on because it's cloudy? |
