What Do Schools Tell Kids the CogAT is For?

Anonymous
I wondered about this too. We got a note from school that seemed to be downplaying it for the kids - telling them that they're not expected to know all of the answers, it's just to see what everyone can do. I didn't want my 2nd grade DS to take that as permission to daydream during the test instead of answering the questions .

DH and I didn't talk about AAP, but we did explain that the test would be used to figure out what he knows now and what kind of school classes would work best for him. We talked about thinking carefully about each question in order to get test results that most accurately reflect him. We tried to make it about "we want to use this test to get an accurate picture of what you know and what you need", not "you need to get the best score possible".
