Umm, so how is that different from living in DC? Serious question. I am perplexed by the PG stigma as well.

Because DC has wealthy, exclusive areas where you can live in a bubble, insulated from all the bad stuff. PG? Not so much.

But you forgot to mention the scary black people! Because some of us have figured this out already- living in a black majority area is the real problem.

And yes living in PG county is just a terror. Sometimes when I'm sitting on my gazebo of my 300k SFH directly off the beltway and 15 min from Washington, which overlooks a serene lake, I see a Canada goose. Imagine! Those illegals torment the ducks and are taking away jobs from good American geese!

My kids are babies, but I'm very impressed with our local elementary, and who knows what the middle/high school will look like in 10 years. But by then I'll have so much money saved up I can send them to whatever private I want.

Then it shouldn't be a surprise to you why a forum titled "PG County Schools" is dead.

There is a separate forum for private schools.

I've seen questions about privates in PG on this forum. But I thought that this forum is less active because there are just fewer posters that live in PG. It's rather difficult to get information about individual pg schools in general, public or private. But I guess that is not related to your argument that pg just stinks? It doesn't. It's a really nice, inexpensive place to live.

Sorry, 14:23 above was meant in response to this lovely posting.

Cut the crap. Most of the people on DCUM are white and live in nice areas, not being pg county.

I'm still very confused. There are LOTS of people living in PG. Lots and lots of people. So it seems obvious that people do want to live in PG. If people didn't want to live there, the population would be low.

What's to be confused about? Lots of people live there because it is cheaper. To get the same size house and same commute you will pay more elsewhere. That's what you can get if you are willing to put up with terrible schools, more crime, and a corrupt dysfunctional local government. Lots of people are willing to make that trade, or have no choice.

For most of the time, I ignored DCUM because of the anti-PG and racist bias that often appears. I prefer to find out most of my information thought local list serves. Now that I don't have to wade through mounds of MoCo/Nova posts I check this forum occasionally.

Part of the problem with this forum is that it is still new. My local school has a majority of Spanish speaking parents, so language is a barrier too. PG is great county, the problem is that many close in neighborhoods have really bad schools. In MOCO, you can live in Silver Spring or Bethesda and get better schools and a short metro accessible commute. Also, the shopping the retail options are a draw in MOCO too. PG has to pay attention to the border communities if it wanys to improve its profile among homebuyers. People will put up with a little crime if they have options for schools and a little shopping. Petworth has taken off in recent years, has some great school options, and a ton of crime compared to the average home price.
