My Cat Won't Stop Staring At Me!!!

Anonymous
My dog does this sometimes -- he'll stare at me and make meaningful eye contact and I just KNOW he's trying to tell me something (e.g. "you haven't walked me lately, remember?" or "planning to fill my water bowl anytime soon?"). Also, he follows me everywhere, even when I just get up to go downstairs to put laundry in the dryer. Honestly, he can be in a deep, comatose sleep and he'll pop up and follow me like his life depends on not leaving my side. It's actually kind of cute. I'm not sure if cats are the same way -- or maybe your cat really IS plotting something? My dog is too dumb and loveable to plot anything!

A cat staring and blinking slowly at you is a sign of affection. Nobody knows this?

Yes, and I've taught my children to respond in kind. Pretty funny to watch my two year old look at the cat and blink slowly!

For some reason, when I stare back at my cat he looks uncomfortable and meows at me.

The second cat might help if he is board however he might just be watching you because he wants something. If he has enough food and water he might desire a treat, he might want attention and want you to talk to him or he might just want to be petted. My adult male Himalayan is very social and affectionate. He can sit there and stare at me until I think he is frozen or something and I will go tap him to make sure he is ok (LOL). It’s a personality thing! In his own way, he feels he is communicating with me and being a part of the family. He is watching me to see when my hand will be available for his next petting session, literally!

One of my two cats does this - in her case it seems to be adoration. She wll stare for a while and if I stop and make meaningful eye contact with her plus talk to her she will the roll over on her back and show me her tummy. Cats are much more affectionate than many people realize.

My cat watches me too. All the time. All the time.

It's just another kitty quirk.

Imagine if you were in their shoes. Uh..I mean fur.

Sitting around an empty house all day.

You would find another person's actions entertaining as well.

Tee. Hee.

+1 I think it sounds like this cat really loves you, OP. He/she is trying to study your movements/ moods to be close to you. Mine does this too. We find it really sweet.

Staring means they are trying to tell you something. Move towards kitty and see if kitty leads you anywhere. You might have to do this several times if you haven't communicated this way before. Over time, kitty will take you where you are needed, in kitty's view, of course.

Dogs look up to their owners.

Cats look down at them. LOL.

He's bored and needs another cat to keep him company.

He probably also adores you.
