Lexapro and cold sores

Funny you say this - I am the yeast infection poster from a diff thread. I went on Lexapro in September and in October got a vaginal yeast infection and in November got a skin yeast infection and a chalezion on my eyelid. Weird! Not cold sore but skin "things."

Cold sores are caused by herpies virus. Lexapro does not infect you with herpies.

You might be dumber than you even sound.

Rarely get cold sores, but I started taking lexapro five weeks ago and, since then, I’ve had 9 cold sores. NINE!!! Has to be a link.

Wow, I have no clue about Lexapro, but even though I'm on suppresion meds (Valtrex), I still get them about 3 times a year. Far more if I don't take Valtrex. My doctor linked it to low Vitamin D. And since I've been taking supplements, I haven't had any. I don't know if that helps if your Vitamin D levels are normal. Mine were low.

Really glad I found this thread - I thought I was crazy. Granted it’s almost December and getting colder - I went roughly 2 years without a cold sore. I got on 5mg lexapro in Oct and have had one monthly. The scar isn’t even healed when the next one pops up. I take 1,000 mg lysine (as the first cold sore I figured was an anomaly). I now have upped the lysine to 2,000 mg daily.

It sucks because the lexapro has helped SO much, no more shot nerves or heart palpitations. But a cold sore on a monthly basis isn’t much fun.

+1 or regularly eat lysine foods. Works like a charm and pill free. If I so much as look as a walnut I get a cold sore, so it works in reverse too.

Switch meds! I've tried a lot and like Celexa.

I didn’t have this side effect but I was so so pukey that I weaned off.

I might have written this, can't remember. But I made a concerted effort to get my D levels up during COVID, and I also take a lysine and proline supplement, 500 mg each. And I have not had any outbreaks for months now....I even stopped taking Valtrex.

Started taking lexapro 2 months ago and it has absolutely caused more cold sores. I deal with it all the time so I know sun, stress, acid foods, etc. can all cause an outbreak. And now I know so can lexapra. Lysine does help.

I am on Lexapro and do NOT have related cold sore, just one usual "cold sore session" every winter that I had had all my life. I use Abreva and it does wonders with cold sores, just apply it when you first feel tingling and the cold sore may never even come, and if it does, it's gone in 2 days if applying abreva every few hours and in my case the cold sore does not come back until next year.
