Homework

Does the 16 year old drive? If so, car privileges could be contingent upon completion of homework.

By 16, my guess is that it's pretty much up to them -- ie you can't get them to do it by nagging. But I would think it would be effective to have house rules where certain things -- like driving -- could be available only when the does his/her job, ie homework.

Between dinner, homework, piano practice, and bath, there is not a lot of extra time. If there is extra time, DC can go to the neighborhood park or read for pleasure. Sometimes, DC just extends the piano without meaning to, and gets a really good practice in.

This is what we do too.

We have no games Mon through Thurs (tv not an issue, or is texting, just computer games). However, DS needs a computer for homework (difficulty w/ handwriting, and also research on internet, not to mention homework posted on internet school access). So he often cheats. this has led to an untenable effort to monitor. Any suggestions?

Print out the homework and have him outline what he has to do by hand before he gets on the computer.. I can disable my internaet access on my laptop, so my son has to focus on writing only ( he has the same problem.). I also give him time limits, so he has to show me what he has done/looked up so far.

I also have let him fail. Nothing like it to ensure no repeats.
