Correct. Ultimately it's a strategy game, not a straight-up guessing game.

Can you elaborate? I’m not following.

At guess 3 or 4, when you had the broad outline of what the word might be, instead of trying to luck into guess the 4th letter, you could have done a throwaway guess that eliminated a bunch of consonants - something like MODEL could have helped. Or SMACK. Or something that got rid of two (or ideally three) possible consonants.

If you're playing in hard mode, however, you can't do it.

Interesting. Never occurred to me to do this. Thanks for the tip!

Failed today.
I know this trick and have done it successfully. Who knows why this flew out of my brain this morning? Could be I'm not as invested because a vacation cut my long streak.

I got it in 2.

Yes. I had SHA*E and I know that PVK were the only letters that could have fit that I hadn't used yet. There's no words with PVK so I did Pivot, learned there is a V and got SHAVE.

With the FLAME BRICK PODGY SHUNT strategy, I got it in 5. Don't flame me, I know it is kind of cheating. I put more effort into the other NYT games.

That’s easy mode. But yes it works.

I got it in 4, first word laser, 3rd chase, next used a V because I reasoned hard mode tries to choose words for containing letters most people won’t pick because odds are low.

Not many words contain V, so it was that or Shape… Shave made sense here.

Might just be luck but I rarely use the same starting word and usually always solve in 2-4.

Hard mode and easy mode have the same words.

Hard mode means your next guess must contain the letters you have already picked right in the same spot they are correct in with each other word you use.

Strange. I got it in 3 and thought it was an easy one. There are days i get frustrated and can't think of any word to try so I give up and never get back to it.

Why is that hard? Isn't that what you are supposed to do? I mean if you get the letter right and the position correct, why would you try a new combination of right letters in the wrong spot?

OMG. Read the thread. There’s a lot of strategies to this game. But I only use them in Octordle, particularly the rescue version.
