Dogs in TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack, etc

Anonymous
If the store explicitly allows it, you can't fault the dog owners.

My issue is entirely with people who bring dogs places they are explicitly NOT allowed. Or who have dogs in permitted areas but off leash, or clearly not trained and terrorizing other people.

There is so much egregious dog owner behavior to choose from, I don't know why I'd get worked up about some well behaved, leashed dogs in stores with dog friendly policies.

Dogs are explicitly allowed in those stores, OP.

Take it up with the franchises.

Seriously? Have you been to Buenos Aires where no one picks up their dog poop? The Caribbean with roaming packs of stray dogs? Any airport with non-US dogs that are snarling and lunging? FWIW - I don’t think non-service dogs belong in most retail environments but your overly broad statement is frankly uninformed.

I saw a woman walk her dog in Harris Teeter recently. A grocery store'

What an odd take. How is this “attention seeking” behavior?

It's pretty obvious. People will comment on the dog "Cute dog!" or ask what breed it is or whatever while the owner basks in the glory.

Disgusting. These people have no shame.

And if the dog poops or pees they don’t clean it!

If the dog isn't making a mess or otherwise acting inappropriately, who cares? Move on, get a life.

You mean the same as people with colds and flus going out and spreading it. Or, peolke allowing their kids to be terrors.

I'll add, I train seeing eye dogs so we're always looking for "active" environments for training like the two stores you listed, along with Home Depot and others, but these also allow pets which is not bad (again, "active" real life environments for training). If the dog is acting up or making a mess that is grounds for dismissal but otherwise...MYOB or contact corporate but TJ Maxx and Nordstron Rack have dog friendly policies.

The best way to ensure your customers don't have to deal with a dog acting up or making a mess is to just not allow dogs in the store. As a customer it's not something I want to deal with if it bothers me It should even be an issue.

Certified seeing eye or other health aide dogs are one thing. The normal American house pet is another. It's only a matter of time before this blows up in a retailer's face.

Because allergies? The problem is even if the dog is gone by the time we're there, the fur/dander can be left behind (on clothing, etc.) I don't see it as much at the Nordstrom Rack on L Street NW. I think it's more a suburban thing where people bring their dogs on all errands.

You aren’t allergic to the labradoodle.

This is incorrect. People in Europe take their dogs EVERYWHERE, including into restaurants.
