Neighbor keeps parking in front of our house

Sigh. I hate this too and one of the reasons I live in suburbia is so that the streets arent' covered with cars. I'd take it back by parking your cars on the street in a way that they can't park near you. So park two cars, but space them just far enough apart that they take up the whole street but don't allow other cars to park in between. Do this for a few days/weeks until they figure it out.

After living in a terrible neighborhood with cars all over the street to the point where an ambulance had to hit several to get down it, we are so glad to be in a HOA where street parking is not allowed and is strictly enforced. It's much nicer for everyone.

Op, either write a note or talk to them directly OR park your cars in front of your house to push them into another spot. Nip this in the bud now bc they are forming a habit.

We used to have neighbors across the street who had two teenage drivers and two adult drivers, each with their own car. I would leave enough space for one of them to park in front of our house. They would park two cars in front of their house and one in the driveway.

They sold their house to another two kids, four drivers/four cars family. And they proceeded to park one car in front of our house in a way that didn't leave room for our car, one in front of their house in a way that didn't leave room for another car, one in the driveway, and one someplace. The only thing that solved it was a divorce and the kids leaving for college.

It turns out that parking so there was room for two cars along the curb between driveways meant parking under trees, and their cars' finishes mattered more to them than their neighbors' convenience. You can't change that attitude.

(Bonus: They were irresponsible dog owners.)

Don't write a note. Start spending more time in your yard, in your driveway, and park your cars in front of your house as if you are oblivious and just making sense of your home and space. Eventually, they'll back off...

You all are crazy. Street parking does not “belong” to anyone. Write a note? For what - to say you parked in front of my house? So what?

Street parking is first come and anyone can park there. The public is entitled to the parking in front of your house as much as you are. Sorry…Article about cracking down on reserving street parking in Takoma Park.

Just park in front of your house. We moved in the same area but a bit out more out so we don’t have people parking in front of our house anymore.

We used to and it didn’t usually bother me but it was an (unsaid but spoken by neighbors) rule to leave one spot for the occupant for parking. We moved from a townhome with only street parking to a SFH with dedicated parking off street because eventually it became a bit much.

If you’re having people over and need that parking ask your neighbors to keep it free. If it’s impacting so your kids can’t play catch outside in the front then maybe park your own cars there so if a car gets dinged it’s yours.

Anyway if it bothers you so much move or just learn to live with it, or park there yourselves.

OP said there are long driveways that can fit 2-3 cars ... OP, can't you just park on your driveway?

You don’t own the street. Seriously, people care about this? If this is your biggest worry then you’re life is going pretty darn well.

OP, don't be that neighbor.

We both have long driveways. Each of our drive ways can fit upto 6. Our neighbors can fit 6 cars in their drive way and an additional 3 cars in front of their house but instead they park 3 in their driveway and 2or 3 in front yard of our house while in front of there house is completely unoccupied. Obviously, I realized that am being petty but we have ignored this for the last 3 months we have lived here. Every single day the neighbors cars parked in front of our house and while there are no cars on the front of their house.

It's rude, OP. Not illegal, but then there are many asocial habits that are not illegal. I agree that you should park in front of your house, just to see what happens.

How is it rude. Explain it to me like I am 5.

If you don’t understand then it’s a lost cause. Carry on.

People don’t care about anyone but themselves. They won’t notice anything you do.

Sick people don’t wear masks. They don’t care about making your family miserable for a week.

Stop thinking communities are anything but selfish. You’ll last longer.
