Reid issues statement giving more details on the data breach.

Reid's statement states:

The parent who inadvertently received this information has confirmed to FCPS that she will not share unredacted or individual student information publicly. The parent has a blog where she shares her views on educational matters, including on FCPS. Based on a review of that blog, the parent has not shared any individual student information. Instead, she has redacted (blacked out) student names

There is contact information for parents who received the letter:

"... If you received a letter from FCPS stating that your child may have been impacted by the inadvertent breach and have questions, please email privacy@fcps.edu. A staff member will be back in touch with you as soon as possible..."

Why would they post different information on the website than what they sent to parents in the letter? I would never think to go look on their website for this. Why not send and "all fcps wide email" to make sure the information is conveyed?

Well, that's what she says and she's the one holding onto all the parents data without their consent, so I'm not exactly going to trust what she says. Even worse, what she admits to strikes me as awful. Why is she continuing to hold onto this data???

She claims she no longer has the data.

She probably sent it to her lawyers via a Yahoo (unsecured) email account, so who knows who else might have that information now, too.

She is a liar who twists the narrative to suit her cause.

FCPS staff who assisted her in copying files to a thumb drive are idiots! The policy and procedure for parents—especially this serial FOIA “advocate” parent—should involve a written request along with printed records (at her cost for both staff time and resources) that are then double checked/approved for distribution.

People are riled up by the parent’s own actions, not what FCPS did.

Yeah, no reasonable adult needs a school system to "rile them up" against someone who has taken all their kids' private information and whose response is I'm going to keep it, share it, and use it without your consent you're supposed to trust me with it now. I think there are pretty clear grounds to blame Oettinger all on our own.

You are a liar. An absolute liar. You are so invested in your hatred of that person and your victimhood that you are unwell. You have no clue about the responsibilities the school had and have been outrageous in your accusations against the person who received the data. There is something wrong with you.

No, that would be you.

What did I say that was a lie? I didn't even know about anything Oettinger until this news just broke so I'm not invested in hating her other than I find it despicable that someone would receive all this private information without consent and have any reaction other than instantly returning or destroying it. She can make a make a complaint to the state about privacy violations, write about it on her blog without even looking at the private data. What about that point of view do you think makes me unwell?
