Recommendations on screen porch size & layout? How do you use yours?

Ours is 20x16 - we have two areas - sitting/lounging and dining. I bought an outdoor daybed that is great for the occasional afternoon nap. Love my screened porch so much!

Ours is 20x16 and I love it. We have a ceiling fan and two heaters, so it's usable most of the year. We have a large sectional and two swivel chairs. I wouldn't do the chairs if I had to do it again because it makes it too tight for a usable table . Or maybe just one chair.

We have a small sideboard style table in one corner and a TV in the center.

We use the seating area all the time and are out there more than we're in our living room. The table is used for WFH or my DCs doing homework.

ours is 20x20. we have a rectangular table that can seat 8, a 2-3 person swing with a bunch of pillows, 3 person couch, and big swivel chair. A few big plants.

i sit out there every morning with my cats while the sun rises....might eat breakfast out there as well...also enjoy afternoon naps out there at times...that is our main entertaining space since it is the newest/nicest room in the house! we had Christmas dinner out there I think in 2021 (?) whenever it was warm enough with our Sunspace windows closed. Last night we had friends over for drinks and sat out there.

Our is long and narrow- 12x32. We have a table for 8 and a lounge area ( couch and 2 chairs) plus a swing seat. We use it for dinner most nights. We have a gas heater that can extend into the cooler evenings.DH and I work and read out there most days.

Following. We’re looking into one now at 14x14. Are wondering if that’s too big given how we have a small lot and would be giving up yard/ exposed deck space due to lot coverage restrictions. Like maybe 14x13 is just as usable, and we should allocate more sq footage to the grill area.

Does anyone have a hanging swing bed on theirs? How much space do you need for that?

We have a 10x20 3-season sunroom, so basically a screened porch with glass. The size is perfect for a seating area (3-seat couch, large coffee table, and 1-2 small lounge chairs) and a round dining table with 4 chairs.

you can't go too big on the porch! You will not spend much time on the outside deck. We have a chair, side table and the grill (which is not huge) and it's perfect. We are out there only to watch the dog in the yard at times and to grill. The porch is where the action is at. The deck is where the mosquitos are at.

Considering that we have a small lot and want a usable yard for kiddos, I am concerned that we are going too big.

We have a smaller screened in porch off our kitchen, but we love it! We have a sectional with two chairs and a coffee table out there. We have a ceiling fan and being out an outdoor standing heater in the winter. We can comfortably host 6 adults out there and love it.

On one side we have a round pedestal table. This works to sit 6 due to not having legs and smaller (but comfortable chairs)

The other side has a sectional and a chair.
We have breakfast in this space daily - will read listen to music.
For watching a movie, we have a projector we purchased and we throw up a movie screen.
This is the biggest room in our house - and we love it. One feature we splurged on were in ceiling heaters. This makes the space useable just about all year.

Tell me more about the ceiling space heaters. Are they safe? What’s the cost?

We have a lounge area (couch, several chairs) and a dining area (table for 6, but we have fit 8). Each area has a ceiling fan and an industrial heater (like what you see on all the outdoor dining areas), that has a low and high setting.

We built our porch/bought the heaters 2 years ago, $1800 each, and you need room in your electric panel (which we had - if you don't it can be a couple thousand more to upgrade your electric). The $1800 didn't include the switches (toggle, up is low, down is high, middle is off), which I think we're $250 each). Not sure what you are asking about safety, these things are in restaurants all over the place since covid, and have been in use long before that as well

16X16 got a sectional couch, table that seats 6, and a tv. Was told by a few people that this was generally the perfect size that won't break the bank but won't feel to small. Wish it was maybe a few feet bigger like 18X16 or 20X16, but we did not have the space. I wanted a big couch so I had to opt for a table that had 1 bench and 4 chairs.

Ours is 18x14 off the kitchen and we have a sectional couch, a swinging round seat, a table, heater and a ceiling fan. We’re out there pretty often. We hosted thanksgiving and we fried the turkey on ours while using ours as a chill area. It’s much more useful than a deck in a way that I really can’t explain. But if we had a normal deck, I doubt we’d be out there as often. I grew up in a house with a deck and we literally used it maybe 4 times a year. We use our screened porch 4 times a week.

Do you have a link, brand name, or some search terms to better understand what you're talking about? I assume this is a significant upgrade on the typical screened-porch ceiling heaters that cost a couple hundred dollars, but I'm having a hard time understanding what exactly to look for.
