| Coming from a private preschool, kid has late summer birthday and was redshirted for prek4 (ie did it twice at the private). In this instance, if we start at DCPS for kindergarten, will be they ok with him being slightly old for his grade? Because he has already established this as his progression, and since DCPS wouldn’t be paying for him to do an extra year? Or will they insist on him entering his technically “correct” grade by birthdate (which would functionally mean he skips)? |
I’m pretty sure they would be ok. Kids move in from other states/districts with different cutoffs all the time. Even MD has a 9/1 cutoff so all the September birthday kids who move from MD to DC at some point are kept on their grade progression. |
