Short ones are actually fine, it’s the to-the-elbow part that’s only supposed to be for evening.
plus they're baggy - the dress doesn't quite fit right, either
and to the complainers - she appears in his ads, she appears at events, she gives quotes, she takes taxpayer funded trips for political speeches and media events. she's not hiding at home trying to lead a private life. she's as much as public figure as any other politician. she, in her weird long baggy gloves and prom dress at a daytime event, is a public figure.
she's good looking! not as much style as melanie. it's more try-hard - and not quite succeeding.
Definitely very try-hard. She is a lot like Ivanka, except Ivanka's mishaps were much more interesting. Overall, her clothes don't seem to reflect any personal style or personality other than "power hungry monster's wife."
In retrospect, Melania did have quite a bit of personal style and did take some risks, some of which paid off and some of which were definite mishaps. It's funny how a few years changes your perspective. Michelle Obama (only when she was first lady) still ranks as my favorite celebrity style-wise.
I don't think it's mean spirited to comment on the fashion choices of figures in the public eye. Jill Biden has had some severe mishaps and I don't mind commenting on them either, I think she does get more leeway because her husband is more palatable and she is older and making fun of a senior feels like punching down?
