Swimming and marching band?

You can’t consistently miss marching band. That screws up the other kids because of the spacing on the field. If you do marching band you need to plan to be there each time as the default (barring illness or something truly unavoidable)

This. When my child was a rising freshman, I asked the FCPS HS if doing both was possible. I was very clearly told there is no way.

This might be anathema to a 6+ day a week swimmer, but could he knock down to 3 days a week, just for the band season? He'll still be Olympic bound, don't worry

More importantly there are all-day Saturday band competitions several weekends throughout the fall. And no you can’t miss for another activity - the whole band is depending on each person to be there. Swimming is an individual sport. Band is definitely not.

I posted above. This is the only way it could work at most schools. Swimming will suffer, but that’s the choice kid has to make.

Correct, cutting back on swimming only affects him. Letting the band down affects them all.

This. At our school if swim is going to be the priority, you'd need to be in the lower level band and not do marching band (marching band is required for kids in the higher level band)

Ha ha, not thinking Olympic-bound. I wasn’t sure if the swim club would let him cut back that much for months, but I guess that depends on the club. I do understand you can’t miss marching band for any reason except an emergency.

Mine managed to work in theater with competitive swimming. Swimming has to take a back seat when it conflicts with rehearsal. I imagine marching band would have to work the same way.
