Washington Episcopal School (WES) Camp?

Anonymous

Hello--

I am interested in the WES camp, which fits our schedule and location needs, and seems to have some a good range of offerings.

Can anyone give me feedback on the camp for a 7 year old boy (rising 3rd grader)? He attends MCPS during the school year. Do non-WES students feel welcome? Is it a fun program? How do kids like going to the different sessions? So far, he has attended camps where he stayed with the same group all day, but in this program, you rotate through activities.

Appreciate any feedback you can give.

Thanks.

my children are younger, but we are interested in summer 2012 at WES. would appreciate hearing about anyone's experiences at their camp in the past.

My son loved the WES summer camp when he attended several years ago. There's a great mix of kids from outside WES - neighborhood, public schools, other private schools, etc. It's a fairly laid back camp with kind caring staff and fun activities.

We did WES years back and found it spotty for our kids. Eg when we dropped off our daughter one day, the teenager camp counselor looked at us like us like "oh great, another kid is here". (not uncommon by the way at other camps too) We found much better experience at Summerset camp (including last year) at Somerset school nearby.

My son went last summer when he was a rising 3rd grader and loved the camp! He loves computers and took the robotics class, which he wants to do again this summer. The sports were all inside the big gym (I would have liked a little more time outside), but again, my son thought it was a lot of fun. It is a small camp, so easy to talk to the head of camp if you have any questions. It seems to be a more laid back camp than some of the others. My son does not go to WES during the year and had no problems.
