Morningstar products - what is so good about them?

Anonymous
I read a lot of posts where moms give them to their kids. Aren't they processed and have lots of preservatives?
Anonymous
yes, but the corn dogs are so much better than regular corn dogs. Yum!

Stupid question: what are corn dogs??

I think these products are grose! More unhealthy than people think!

I believe they are a hot dog, or in Morningstar's case a tofu dog, covered in a cornbread type breading. You usually eat them on a stick!

Honestly - i think any frozen packaged food like this is gross too...BUT i keep a box of the black bean burgers on hand as my DD likes them and i figure it beats chicken nuggets or something pumped w. hormones when in a pinch. -- Sometimes the kids just have to eat quickly and I find morning star brand to be the lesser of all the evils.....

We don't use them alot, but we use them to replace situations where you might eat a worse alternative. So no, not terribly heathy, but much better than the alternative.

I had no idea that they were so unhealthy! I actually felt good about giving them to my kiddos. I better check the ingredients.

me too...I love the tomato pizza basil burgers. Oh well, I'll eat them anyway and work it off later.

They are not unhealthy. They are an alternative to eating meat that have been around for ten plus years and have jsut recently gotten very popular with a wide range of products. Trader Joes and Whole Foods both sell Morning Star type roducts under their labels as well as the other frozen soy brand (Boca?). They are not bad for you. They were a choice for vegetarians and now lots of people eat them.

That being said "textured soy" is not the same as tofu. Something with the estrogen and the fermentation process.

when you're vegetarians -- as we are -- morningstar is a godsend.

I think it smells awful while cooking. Just vile.

I used to eat their "sausage" patties for breakfast. My long term vegetarian roommate at the time was grossed out by the cooking smell, because they really are close to the real thing.

The black bean ones are delicious! They are a staple in our house.

The sausage links are really yummy, and, obviously, lots better for you than the real thing.
