Tips for diving from NY to DC?

My sister is driving from Queens to DC. She wants to leave on Thurs morning. Any tips? How do I get around the DE toll plaza going south?

We're going the other way, and we're leaving at 4am to avoid the toll mess. I think the only way around it is to leave in the middle of the night.

Can she take a train? It would be worth every penny. The only reason we're not is because we have an infant and couldn't deal with the whole car seat issue and all the gear and where we're going is close enough to a station. But Queens to DC, I would strongly suggest the train.
