How do you work shoes/hose for holiday party?

I have no idea how I've made it this far along in life without figuring this one out. Such a dumb question.

Most cute dressy shoes have open toes. It's going to be freezing outside. What to do about hose? Do most women just freeze? Bare toes when it's cold out seems weird. Do I just search for the so-far-elusive cute and dressy closed foot shoe (I have narrow feet. Makes shoe shopping a PITA)?

No, you should not wear hose with open-toe shoes. I wouldn't wear hose at all, though, as I hate them. Yes, it's cold outside, but how long will you be outside? Put on a long coat and you'll be fine.

long coat, make DH (or the taxi) drop you off right at the door.

Some people more trendy than I wear tights with open toe shoes, but I can't pull it off and I don't think of it as very dressy for a holiday party.

But if you really wanted to wear hose of some sort, I think you can still find peau du soie shoes at Nordstrom's and Lord & Taylor. As for fit, I often put insoles in my shoes to make regular widths snug enough for my AAA feet.
