slumber party for 9 year old boy

Anonymous
My soon to turn 9 year old boy would like to have a sleepover party for three of his friends. He's slept over at two of their homes before and we've had one of the boys over before. I'm looking for ideas to make this a fun evening. The boys are all great and good friends of my son but don't know each other well or hang out except when with my son. I guess I'd like to just keep them really busy and occupied so they don't start arguing about what to do -- they all quite different personalities, and my ons plays with each one in a different way. Any suggestions?

Does your son like one particular sport more than others? Perhaps it's baseball. You could buy plain baseball shirts from Dicks or Sports Authority, then print out some images of professional team jerseys. Use that as a template to have the boys copy the design onto the baseball shirt using fabric markers. Then have them play catch or monkey in the middle. My DH did this for our DS. He loves hockey. The boys colored the designs on the shirt and then went out and played street hockey until they were exhausted. 8)

I forgot to add that after the boys decorated the shirts they then wore them for the rest of the day!

Thanks PP! Sports are not my son's thing -- but I like the idea of having them do a craft of some kind.

And I think I might have them do an outdoor scavenger hunt -- something to get them moving from house to house on our street maybe? It'll be cold and dark, but the activity would probably be really good.

Any more ideas?

flashlight tag, make-your-own pizza or make your own tacos bar for dinner, card games, a movie . .. .these are the things I remember my boys (now 16 and 19) loved to do at sleepovers when they were that age

Yes, flashlight tag for sure. Have them do make-your-own pizzas for dinner, teach them some card games (my 10yo son likes cards), play Twister (they will LOL), play BINGO with everyone (kids & your family) involved (give prizes). Play Sardines (child goes to hide, other children look for him, child who finds him has to get into the hiding place with him, then one child is left looking ...).

For dessert: Let them do make-your-own-sundaes, or have chocolate fondue - my kids love that. Cut up fruit, baguette, maybe pound cake for dipping. They will think it is the coolest thing ever. Consider s'mores - if you have a fire pit or fireplace they can roast marshmallows there.

I did a "pass the parcel," and had three lego kits as the parcels. When the music stopped, each kid got the one they were holding. Each kit was 20 or 30 dollars, but it took up a lot of time since the kids each did the one they received. Also that took the place of goody bags. They were pretty quiet for the hour or so that they worked on the kits.
