United Premium Plus “worth it” threshold

Anonymous
For an 8-10 hour flight, when is an upgrade to United Premium Plus worth the cost?

Would you say $379/seat (one way) to move from center seats way, way back in economy to Premium Plus is worth it? Does it make a difference if the flight is overnight vs daytime?

Do upgrades ever drop below than $379? Or go significantly higher?

I just splurged on Premium Plus for an overnight flight for my family but I’m not sure if it was a dumb decision or not. We’re usually plain economy people.

Either way I don’t plan on telling my spouse what it cost because spouse would say the upgrade is not worth $379. (Shhh)

And I won’t upgrade the other leg for another $379. The plain economy seats in the way, way back on the daytime flight should be fine.

But would I upgrade for $200? Not sure.

I'd say it's worth it.

I'd say it's worth it ...$379 total? Seems like bargain. That's a long flight

I wouldn't pay it, because there are 3 of us and that's a lot of money to me. So this is going to be pretty subjective.

She said $379 per seat. I'm a small person and my family is all short so it wouldn't be worth it for me because overnight I wouldn't expect to be chatting anyway. I would only pay if I knew I could actually sleep in the more expensive arrangement.

Think of it as an experiment and the experiment is part of your vacation. Report back to us when you get home.

You got a bargain. Enjoy

Not worth it to me, but enjoy

Not worth it to me. How much is Economy Plus. These are the same seats as economy, but about three more inches of legroom.

Economy plus was $225/seat
Premium was $379
Polaris was a couple thousand

I am 5” and 110. It is so worth it. You can sleep. Bigger seat, leg room, nice blanket. It’s even better for a small person. I’ve done business lie flat, and now I know premium plus is great because of my size ( so can economize this way).

Yes for sure for overnight. Makes the trip better when you can sleep.

I’m not rich, so almost $400 each way is a lot of money to me. I’m Silver on United, which is the lowest of their tiers, but i can always get Economy Plus, which is good enough for me. It’s only a couple extra inches, but it makes a huge difference, especially on any flight over four hours.

For an international flight which this sounds like it’s absolutely worth it. Better food, more space.
