I have dark brown, mid-back length hair that I've always either worn up or blown out straight. It's boring. I think it could be wavy, with the right cut and products
Please recommend your stylist who's good with layered, wavy styles to help me cut and my boring hair. Pictures would be perfect; clearly this isn't my area of expertise! |
| I tell my stylist that I want flexibility to wear it straight or curly/wavy. I usually see Brittany at Bang on U St. She’s really been great with my hair and also nice to chat with. |

| Mid back is too long. |
Not if it's healthy. |

mid back is not "too long". It's the start of "long" hair IMO. I've rarely had my hair shorter than mid back.
If you want to encourage some of the waves/curls, stock up on moisturizing products! You can find lots of videos on SM about ways you can brush/style to encourage more curls. Do you have a diffuser? |
My stylist Walid Shaker is pretty good. 24 years experience. Check him out on Instagram and give him a follow. If you like his work, DM him for an appointment. https://www.instagram.com/al_colorist/ |

I used to have straight hair and it gradually transitioned to wavy/curly. For years, the back was curly and the front was straight.
Last year I discovered that if I brush my hair in the shower after I condition it, then after I rinse the conditioner I apply a leave-in to the ends, and when I get out I put it up in a turban-style hair towel while I get ready. Then I take it down and let it air dry and voila, it's curly all over. I was shocked to have all-over curly hair. I don't brush it after I get out of the shower and I don't add any product. |
PP here, correction: I apply some of my regular conditioner to the ends and leave it in, it's not actual leave-in conditioner. Also, my hair is longer than ever, at least down to mid-back level. Contrary to common advice, one of the keys for me is to use a relatively lightweight conditioner. My hair just isn't curly enough to withstand the weight of a more intense conditioner while maintaining the curl. |
| If your waves are subtle, the length of your hair may be pulling it straighter. Some long layers might give you more curl. |
