jewish students at Notre Dame?

Any experience? My dd is drawn to the "vibe", but I'm not so sure. But there are a lot of colleges I thought would be on her list, that we've taken off the last couple of months so I'm more open than I might have been.

How about this.
No violent anti-Israel protest at Notre Dame.

She might consider contacting Professor Winitzer, the Jordan H. Kapson Associate Professor of Jewish Studies at Notre Dame.

Here is a history of Jewish students at ND: https://sites.nd.edu/ndarchives/jewish-students-at-notre-dame/

Current:

Jewish Club of Notre Dame: https://notredameday.nd.edu/organizations/jewish-club-of-notre-dame

There are some articles written by Jewish students at ND about their experiences. Should be pretty easy to search on line.

Here's one: https://www.ndsmcobserver.com/article/2023/05/jesus-was-a-jew

and here's one from the Jewish on Campus Ambassador program:

Also the ADL has reports on all colleges: https://www.adl.org/campus-antisemitism-report-card/university-notre-dame

Yeah, because students agree with Pope Francis’ insistence (months ago) on an immediate cease fire.

I can't imagine making this choice as Jewish student over all the other options.

My daughter is super social, devout/active Christian (Presbyterian)--youth group leader, regular church attender, etc.

Thought she would love ND but toured and felt like it would be an uphill climb socially as she is not Catholic. The dorms have mass. The culture felt VERY Catholic (far more so than Georgetown, Boston College).

Sure, she could make it work but why CHOOSE that option and pay $90K/year for it when there are other options?

Pope Francis never insisted violent protest, disturbing peace, or intruding students right to learn with paying $$$

What about the vibe did your daughter like OP? I ask because there are likely plenty of other schools that have the same level of school spirit, football, etc. If she was attracted to the fact that people on campus are super kind, that is likely the Catholic aspect at play. If she is comfortable with having 80% of her fellow students being Catholic, then she would be fine. Not everyone goes to mass, but the culture tends to be more religious than other Catholic schools.

She might also want to look at Boston College, which would have a similar vibe, but not as focused on its Catholic identity as ND.

I can actually see it, if not choosing a Jewish school. There are Jewish kids in Catholic high schools, etc.

as a former Catholic person, I've noticed that my friendships in the workplace and in general tend to connect with others who are Catholic/former and/or Jewish co-workers. There are similarities in values, culture, and the mindset. So, I can see how your DD might have been drawn to it. On the flip side, I think the environment where everyone ASSUMES you are Catholic and assumes you understand or agree with Catholic things would get old fast for someone who is Jewish. I'd be very cautious about committing to ND.

As others have said, Notre Dame is lovely but as a Jewish mom I cannot imagine choosing it for my child. I'm from the midwest and have friends who went to ND and they were all devout Catholics.
In NJ now and anecdotally there is one Jewish boy in our area headed to Villanova and the choice is definitely raising eyebrows - more so than if he were choosing BC or Georgetown. And ND is even more Catholic than Villanova.

The violence all came from the pro Israel side. See UCLA for reference. Also see the video footage. It’s unbelievably violent and racist. Other than that, the rest of the violence has come from the cops beating up kids.

I can’t tell what’s satire and what’s real anymore.

Delusional rankings from a Hamas supporter. Take your alternative facts elsewhere. And, please check out all the property damage caused by the “protesters” at Columbia.

Take a look at Loyola Maryland? Very community focused.
