Derm for the very mole-y (Tysons area plus)

Our family gets lots of atypical moles removed. Our current derm practice seems to be ultra conservative, as in “better safe than sorry, let’s remove this”. Problem is they always leave ugly scars, they’re small but annoying. So looking for some recs for trusted derms, maybe a bit more discerning, but certainly a bit better at the scalpel and stitches.

Marjan Yousefi in Tysons (Boone Blvd). She’s wonderful. I moved further away and still drive an hour to see her (or her PA, who I also like). She’s thorough and meticulous about noting changes, but doesn’t remove every little thing.

No, his son took over his practice.

She’s fully competent and also a doc I’m looking to move on from. She’s removed many atypical moles and I have scars to remind me. Friends seem to have similar procedures with much less scarring. She also ONLY answers questions asked. I’d appreciate a little proactive advice from my specialist.

Sylvia Suarez in the McLean office of Anne Arundel Derm. She is fantastic, one of the most competent and compassionate doctors I've ever seen. 10/10

+1. Also, OP, you can always take the conservative advice to remove the moles but op to go to a plastic surgeon for the actual removal rather than letting the derm do it.

Gayle Masri Fridling - her manner is a little brusque but I think she’s a very competent and thorough medical derm. She’s removed moles on me and I don’t find the scars to be very problematic.

I have thought about moving on from my conservative derm as well due to scars. But I would rather prevent cancer than have it. Also, scarring seems to be random - sometimes they’re hardly noticeable after 6 months and other times they are red/raised. I do plan to look for a plastic surgeon if a removal is recommended on my face.
