| My daughter just started playing club field hockey. I’m thinking I should buy her proper field hockey sneakers instead of her old Nikes. Any recommendations? I’m clueless at this stuff. |

Lots of girls seem to like the adidas Fabela shoes. Our DD wears the Fabela Rise (which she thinks is more comfortable than the other adidas shoes) or ASICS brand field hockey turfs.
We have always ordered ours or picked them up at big tournaments so I’m not sure where local might sell them. The Fabela rise are on sale on the adidas website right now. |
| I suggest ordering a variety for her to try. It may cost you more in shipping but it is the best way to get her a good fit. Not all field hockey shoes are made the same. For example, some are water proof, some aren’t. If she is playing club she should have proper shoes because field hockey shoes offer additional protection regular sneakers do not. My daughter wears Addidas Fabela Zone 2.1. She has tried a variety over the years and this is her current choice. |
| Thank you! |
| The Fabela is definitely the favorite among club players, but at the college level, many seem to go back to the Asics. Obviously, that's based on what the schools are able to get, and Adidas is not giving them the shoes. But after wearing the Fabela for years-and by the way, the last pair she bought fit horribly and caused tremendous pain--she was surprised at how good the Asics felt last year when that's what her college team gave her. They just don't look as cool as the Fabela, but seem, for her anyway, to be better for her feet and overall. |
Bumping up this thread from another clueless field hockey mom. My rising 8th grader is not a serious player, just has to be on a school team, but my DSW sneaker shopping trip and I want to give her some foot support. Do I get her a running shoe? A general exercise shoe? I just have high arches and get what the people at the running store tell me are good for women in their 40s

| If you don’t want to go all the way to FH specific shoes I’ve heard that some girls wear trail running shoes. You want something with an aggressive tread for grip but not as much as soccer cleats. |
|
Seconding on the trail runners if you don't want to buy FH specific shows.
Also, soccer turf shoes are good. Players need some grip on the manmade playing surfaces. |
| Thank you both! |
| My daughter was not a super serious player and always wore her soccer turf shoes. Just adding this for those who don’t want elite club gear. |

You can also look at lacrosse turf shoes (not cleats, not high ankle). My DD wore Nike Huarache shoes all through club and HS. She wore through pretty much a pair per year since club was year round. I had good luck buying them on ebay of all places, often for less than $50/pair.
She is in college now and they supply Asics turf shoes which she is ok with but doesn't love. Unfortunately, she can't wear the Nikes in college. |
