Bus from NYC to Rehoboth/Dewey/Lewes?

Anonymous
Hi,

I have read the positive reviews of BestBus (formerly DC2NY) on this forum, but this summer they are only offering a bus from NYC (Penn Station) to Dewey on Friday night and Saturday morning and a return on Sunday night. We are renting a house in Dewey from Saturday to Saturday in June and invited my daughter's boyfriend to join us. He would be traveling from NYC and doesn't have a car. We might be able to make the BestBus on Saturday work, though it arrives several hours before we can check in, but we have no way for him to go home.

I have checked with OurBus and they haven't set their schedules yet for June, so we don't know if they will offer their NYC to Dewey service and, if so, which days. I know that he can take Amtrak to BWI and then some kind of van to Ocean City (and vice versa). I think he can also take an OurBus to Cape May and then the ferry to Lewes.

These are somewhat onerous options that are also more expensive than he was planning for with the BestBus. Are there any options I have missed? If not, we will figure something out, but if there's a solution, I would love to know about it.

Thanks!

I suppose he could also come back to the DC area with you and then take a bus from Arlington/Bethesda/DC

He needs to figure out his own way to get there. He can rent a car or take the train to wilmington and rent a car.

There's no 2024 schedule up yet (website says to check back in May), but last summer DART offered a Rehoboth-Wilmington bus on summer Saturdays/Sundays/holidays. Three buses daily in each direction. Could Amtrak to/from Wilmington.

Last year's schedule (scroll down to the pink section for Wilmington-Rehoboth route):

NJ Transit also could get him NYC-Cape may on buses, but I think it involves changing buses in AC.

He isn't old enough to rent a car unfortunately.

Thank you! I will check on the DART. I didn't see it when I looked on their site the other day so I appreciate the link from last year.

We don't have space for an extra passenger. I wish we did.

How old is he?

Doesn't seem as if there's a bus from BWI to anywhere closer than Ocean City anymore. NYC--Wilmington--Rehoboth or NYC--AC--Cape May-Ferry--Rehoboth/Dewey seem to be your only options beyond renting a car in NYC and driving (which honestly might be the least aggravating option).

I live at the beach in the summmer and I travel to NY for work several times while I am there. I take the train from Wilmington.

How do you get to Wilmington? It is too far for us to make the RT to pick him up/drop him off when we already have our own RT drive to the beach. If you take some form of public transportation, that would be wonderful to know about.

I drive and leave my car at the train station. I am in Bethany and it is about a hour and 1/2 with no traffic each way. I am guessing it would be an hour from Lewes.

We will be in Dewey so a 3 hour RT to pick him up. I'm glad it works for you though. Enjoy your summer at the beach!

Looks like there is a weekend DART bus (Bus 305) that leaves from Wilmington. So he can take Amtrak to Wilmington and then transfer.
