We are booked for one night next week at Maswik Lodge. I just checked and there is a room available at Kachina for $100 more. It seemed like not worth it for one night but now I'm wondering (El Tovar is also available but for $150 more).
Opinions? |

I think El Tovar is worth $50 more than Kachina but I am a sucker for the old NP lodges (and it’s nice to eat dinner there).
IIRC the difference between Maswik and Kachina is more that Maswik is a few minutes walk away so not sure it’s worth the extra cash (but I could be remembering wrong and we didn’t stay at either). |
| I stayed in Kachina it had a dormitory feel with cinder block walls. At the end of the day, you’re not there for the accommodations. Make all your dining reservations at El Tovar. It’s a lovely hotel with the only food that’s palatable. And if there’s a room available, I would take it. |
| We stayed at Kachina last summer. The AC was really weak. The techs came out 3 times over the evening and couldn't figure it out. |
FYI I think El Tovar guests can make reservations 90 days in advance while guests at other lodges can make reservations for dinner 30 days in advance. |
