Does anyone have a Mustang Mach-E?

Anonymous
I'm getting ready to make the jump to an EV, and I most recently landed on a Mustang Mach-E with an extended-range battery and AWD. I'm curious if anyone has one and would appreciate your feedback. Teslas are out. I'm not a fan of Elon Musk. I test-drove the Volkswagon ID4, but the range is meh. I didn't like the interior finishes. I'm trying to keep my purchase under 50K - and if I buy a slightly used model, under 40K.

I don't have a Mustang Mach-E, but I recently test drove one while researching the switch to EVs. (Like you, we also ruled out Teslas.) I liked driving the MachE a lot more than I thought I would -- it handles well. The inside felt a little cramped for me, and I didn't love the sight lines (though the full moon roof might have helped -- I drove one without the moon roof).

We ended up going with a Hyundai Ioniq 5 -- we love it so far. It was roomier inside than the Mustang, and I love the way it drives. We got ours for 45K, so maybe that would be an option to consider?

I love the way the Mach E looks, but I’d still probably go with Tesla. They pretty much pioneered the technology, and they still do it better than anyone else. Refusing to buy the best product on the market because you don’t like the founder is pathetically stupid on your part. You’ll subject yourself to an inferior product out of spite? Are you like 6 years old?

Not six but don't want to contribute my dollars to Elon Musk. I drove a Tesla Model Y for comparison, and I didn't love it.

Thanks to pp who talked about the sightlines and the cabin size. I haven't driven a Mach- yet, but I will this weekend. I'm a small person, so hopefully, the size works for me. I want to love the Ioniq5 but I just don't like the looks of it. Please don't take offense but it looks like a car that a young guy would drive.

I rented one for a week. The ride was great. Not sure about battery life, etc

Pp here, and no offense taken! I get it! I actually think it helped that I test drove the car on a rainy day and didn’t spend a lot of time looking at the outside. By the time I did, I had already kind of fallen for it.

I hope you like the Mach! If I weren’t going to be toting kids and sports gear around, I might have ended up with that car. It just wasn’t the right car for me right now - so instead, I’m a 44 year old mom driving a young-guy-looking car. I can live with that.

good luck with the search! It’s a little extra work to switch to EV, but we are really happy with our decision to do so (and to do so without lining Musk’s pockets).

OP here and thanks. I'm getting a new car because my kid is getting their license and inheriting my 12 year old car. My days of toting kids are coming closer to the end. I'll have only one kid to drive around for a few more years. Enjoy your kid driving while it lasts.

Maybe you would have an argument (big maybe) if Tesla cars were truly superior to the other EVs, but that is not the case anymore. Other brands have caught up and surpassed. Tesla have extremely cheap feing interiors, poor build quality, fit, and finish, and have baffling design decisions (no speedometer in front of your, no stalk on new model 3).

Last, questioning someone's principles, you sound more like you are six yourself. Completely get why poster may not want to support someone as right wing and crazy as Elon, nor drive a car in which he/she my get judged in.

I have one. It’s a great car for local driving. Long drives kind of suck because it doesn’t charge as fast as others. Doesn’t feel cramped at all to me. Other downside is the info screen which is buggy.

People can spend their money however they want.

You're also screwed if you get in an accident with Tesla - they don't repair their own cars and it's months' long wait to get a service appointment with an authorized repair center + acquire the necessary parts. At least Ford and Hyundai have a robust dealership network with onsite repair centers.

I also have one. Agree that info screen is buggy. Long drives will soon be fine because Tesla has opened up their supercharging network to Ford (and Ford only, right now). Adapters (you have to get on a waitlist PP if you already have a car) shipping Jun24 so be sure if you buy to get the newer version of a MachE with the correct charger for the Tesla supercharger network. Then PPs comment won't hold.

Fwiw we have a Tesla S and a MachE and everyone in the family prefers the MachE. That said, long drives are quieter/more comfortable in the Tesla.

Both cars have great pickup.

I agree that being able to use tesla's supercharging network will help with long trips in finding somewhere to charge, but it won't help with the speed. It will still take longer to charge than a Hyundai or Tesla. I did see the 2024 is supposed to charge a little faster than the current model, but 20 minutes vs 40 minutes to go from 10 to 80 percent is a pain.

How’s VW’s nationwide charger network doing? Or Ford’s? Hyundai’s? No?

Funny how ALL manufacturers are now standardizing on Tesla charging plugs and chargers, isn’t it? Like, they didn’t even TRY to create a nationwide network of their own charging stations to support their own proprietary charging gear. They just gave up and hopped onboard Tesla’s technology.

Everyone is a Tesla hater now because it’s fashionable, but you’ll still use the technology and the charging stations. Pathetic. Have some principles, dammit! If you loathe Musk that much, refuse to use anything Tesla-derived.

Make sure anything you get has the Tesla/NACS charge port or your road trips are going to be disappointing.

That rules out pretty much anything Used & Not Tesla.

If you don’t buy from people you don’t like, then you need to live off grid in a cave. Grow your own food and don’t drive on roads.
